Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extolled the life of the Late Oba Sanusi Matiku Olusi, whose 80th Year Remembrance was observed on Friday, stressing the significance of teaching children the fundamentals of religion and the importance of spiritual growth and moral development in young individuals.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said this at the remembrance event, which took place at the Lagos Central Mosque, Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Lagos Island, and had in attendance the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) leaders, religious faithful, and crew of Lagosians, who all showed support for the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) Leader,  Prince Tajudeen Olusi, the son of the Olusi dynasty.

The governor, who was represented by the deputy governor, Dr Kadir Obafemi Hamzat, said teaching children the fundamentals of religion and the importance of spiritual growth and morals would enable them to have a positive impact on society, as epitomized in the life of the Late Oba’s children.

The governor added that by instilling religious values, parents and guardians can help shape their children’s worldviews, guiding them toward a path of compassion, empathy, and responsible decision-making.

The governor, while appreciating Prince Tajudeen Olusi for organizing the event, noted that the event served as an opportunity to offer prayers and Sadaqat in memory of the Late Oba Olusi.

“The essence of today is to offer prayers and Sadaqat in honour of the Late Oba Olusi. It is also very important to train our children, so that they understand the essence of our religion, and then, be of good character wherever they go.

“Our father Prince Tajudeen Olusi is remembering his father who died 80th ago, it is a lesson for all of us to always remember our parents, and we must do well in remembering our late parents’ memories,” he said.

In his address, the Leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi said that the event marked the 80th years of Allah’s faithfulness to the Olusi family since the departure of the Late Oba Sanusi Matiku Olusi.

The GAC leader noted that the late monarch was a great man and asset to the community whose leadership and selflessness benefited the community, stressing the need for people to make judicious use of their time, position, and power to impact people’s lives.

“Death is inevitable for anyone and it is imperative for those of us who are alive to make better use of our time, position and power to impact other lives positively,” Prince Olusi said.

Also, speaking, the APC Chairman, Lagos State chapter, Pst. Cornelius Ojelabi, described the Late Oba Olusi as a legend, a family man who had instilled good values in his children just like Prince Olusi had been an asset to the community.

He urged Nigerians to teach their children the right values and principles, setting them on a path that would benefit them throughout their lives.

“The children we train today will be the ones that will lead the nation tomorrow,” he said.

In his lecture, the Alfa Agba of Lagos, Sheikh Imam Mujitaba Akewushola Giwa, enjoined privileged Nigerians to extend a helping hand to those in need and serve as positive representatives within their communities, given the current situation of the country.

“Wherever you find yourself, be good to the people around you and let them know you for a good deed because you are alive today, you won’t be alive tomorrow, which is why it is very important for you to do good to others,” he admonished.
