A 36-year-old Sales Representative, Sijuade Ejiwunmi, on Monday appeared at an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly replacing goods worth N1million with stones at his employer’s shop.
Ejiwunmi, who lives at 17, Aroyewu Onapekun St., Igbogbo, Ikorodu, was docked on a charge of stealing before Magistrate W. B. Balogun.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. John Iberedem told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence between January and April 2018 at Funtad Ventures in Ikorodu, owned by Mr Solomon Oliwo.
Iberedem said that the accused usually removed goods in cartons and replaced them with stones.
“Whenever goods were brought from the manufacturing company, the accused will sell some of them and will fail to remit the money to his master’s account.
“So, each time his boss wanted to take stock in the shop, he would have filled empty cartons with stones, so that his boss would think that there were still enough goods in the shop.
“When some customers buy the goods they will return them, and the master would accuse the company’s driver of perpetrating the act.
“Only recently, the sales representative was caught in the act and was later reported and arrested by the police,” he said.
Iberedem told the court that the offence contravened section 168 of the Lagos State Criminal Code Laws, 2015.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Balogun granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must be related to the accused and must also provide three years tax payment receipt from Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until May 17.
