The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kogi, has appealed to local government workers for understanding, due to delay in the payment of their salaries.
The chairman of the state chapter of ALGON, Alhaji Taufiq Isah, in a statement signed by his special adviser on media, Mr Abubakar Hussain, made the appeal in Lokoja, on Wednesday.
Isah, who also doubles as the Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, blamed the development on the rigorous screening and verification exercise of workers and the audit exercise by the Office of the Auditor-General of Local Governments.
The chairman said the ongoing payment of cleared workers in batches would be sustained and improved upon to speed up the pace of payment, assuring that all genuine workers would receive their salaries soon.
Isah while felicitating with Muslims on the occasion of the Eid –el- Fitri celebration, enjoined them not to relent in their prayers for the country and its leaders.
Isah also urged Muslims to emulate the virtues of Prophet Mohammed by continuing to live with other Nigerians in peace.
