An Agency of the Lagos State Government, Safe School Lagos (SSLAG), has awarded Dowen College Beacon of Safety Award.
SSLAG which is an arm of the Lagos State Safety Commission, promotes safety practices in schools in the state.
Speaking on this development, the Principal of the School, Dr Adebisi Layiwola, described the award as a thing of joy for them, noting that they have a safety club, safety ambassadors urging the other members of the class to do what is right.
The Principal added that the school is also into risk assessment, describing safety as being conscious of oneself and environment.
She said the school was the first the agency worked with, noting that they cooperated with them even as they trained them and thus leading to safety management apparatus existence in the school.
“We are so happy we won the award. We have a safety club, safety ambassadors in each school urging the other members of the class to do what is right.
“We are also into risk assessment.Saftey means being conscious of yourself and being aware of your environment and prevent anything that is being hazardous and you put strategy in place.
“When SSLAG was initiated, we were the first set of people they worked with. We cooperated with them. They trained us. We have a safety management in place now. Each person is responsible for safety. So everything ties up beautifully,” She said.
