Ruling house faults composition of Olofin of Ado-Odo kingmakers’ council, seeks Abiodun’s intervention

The Okewaye Ruling House in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State, has faulted the reconstitution of the kingmakers’ council saddled with the responsibility of selecting the new Olofin of Ado-Odo.

This is just as the ruling house declared that the recomposition of the council by the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs will disrupt the selection process for the vacant stool.

It will be recalled that the stool became vacant on January 7, 2022 when Oba Abdul-Lateef Adeniran Akanni joined his ancestors.

According to a protest letter signed by the head of Okewaye Ruling House, Sulaimon Adedimeji, the family also raised concerns about potential civil unrest while alleging that certain powerful persons loyal to one of the aspirants are using security agents to intimidate and disenfranchise others.

Adedimeji, in the letter, disclosed that the composition of the nine-man kingmakers council included six warrant chiefs whose appointments were illegal and unconstitutional, insisting that the surviving three members should be allowed to carryout the selection process in line with established laws and procedures.

The ruling house, which believed the present course of actions is liable to litigation and likely to cause civil unrest, called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene and ensure that a free, fair, and credible selection process is undertaken to fill the vacant stool.

“Urgent attention is requested to safeguard the integrity of the selection process and uphold justice in filling the vacant throne of Olofin of Ado Odo Kingdom, with a commitment to due process and the rule of law,” Adedimeji said in the letter.
