Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige on Thursday put smiles on the faces of the residents of Ikolaba community, Ibadan, as they donated a generator and commissioned a water borehole meant for the community.
The commissioning held at the Ikolaba axis had in attendance members of the club and witnessed by members of the community.
President of the Club, Mr Lanre Balogun, in his remarks while handing over the project to the community leader, said that Rotary Club stands to impact the community and that is why they are commissioning the project so as to provide
hygienic water for the community.
He urged residents of the community to make judicious use of the water borehole.
“We look at communities around us and try to assist them in our own little way in order to commemorate the water and sanitation month,” Balogun said.
He disclosed that Rotary Club has been instrumental in some intervention projects in helping the community in the areas of building and community projects.
“From the way we operate in Rotary Club, the time that we want to give assistance to communities, we do what we call a survey and determine the area that we feel needs the water like the case that we have now.
“Looking at Ikolaba community in particular, we realised that close to 400 people are always in constant need of water, so that’s why we considered Ikolaba.
“It is important that we have people to take good care of it because that would be another way to encourage Rotary Club to do more. The only way to praise us is simply for them to ensure that they are taking good care of the facility we have given them and ensure that the premises are well maintained.”
Representative of the District Governor, Mr. Soji Sangobiyi, in his remarks urged “the community leader to handle the project very well” adding that “some of our representatives will be coming to check the condition of the project because this is the only way you can challenge us to do more.”
In his response, the representative of Baale Ikolaba, Alhaji Tirimisiriyu Badmus, thanked Rotary Club for the gesture, while assuring them of good management of the project.
“You beat our imagination with this donation, borehole with generator, all we can say is thank you and I also charge the politicians to emulate what Rotary Club is doing because it is better not to promise than promise and not fulfill,” Badmus said.
