Rotary Club of lyaganku-Ibadan, on Wednesday, donated medical equipment to the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), Arapaja Junction, Odo-Ona Kekere, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The donation was made as part of the club’s focus on the Maternal and Child Health Month.
Speaking at the presentation, Vice President of the Club, Edward Nwosa, who represented the president, Olubunmi Oni, said the programme is an annual event where they see to the wellbeing of expected mothers and babies.
“Today, we are here with gifts for mothers and babies.
“Some of the items donated include Sphygmomanometer, detergents, den-gloves, birth kits, nurse caps, mopping sticks, liquid detergents, cotton wools, conform gloves, spirits, elbow gloves, among others,” Oni said.
Also, the Project Committee Chairman, Francis Ijidale, said the aim of the programme was to give back to the community as Rotary stands for service to humanity.
“We are making an impact through our resources to help our communities. This month is for maternal and child health, where we care for the incoming babies, from conception to age five and care delivery so as not to experience a stiff birth.
“We are donating the baby packs to the Primary Healthcare Centre because we chose the centre as a partner and we support it with our little contributions to make an impact and also complement the efforts of the government.
“We believe government cannot do everything alone, and that is why we are here to give back in order to help our communities.”
Matron of the PHC, Yetunde Sadia, expressed her appreciation to the club for the generous contributions, saying the equipment would go a long way in helping the centre, the mothers and their babies.
“The equipment, the Sphygmomanometer, which we use to check the blood pressure of patients, is very important in the work of nurses and doctors.
”We use it to check vital signs; other items donated like Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), conform gloves among others would also go a long way in helping patients.”
Meanwhile, Secretary, Oluyole Local Government Health Authority, representatives of Dr Akanni Olayinka, commended the club for the donations.
“The management of Oluyole Local Government Health Authority appreciates the gesture of the club for extending its donations to the healthcare centre. We promise that the items will be judiciously utilised.
