Rotary Club of Iyaganku Ibadan on Wednesday donated baby materials to nursing mothers in two maternity centres in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The areas visited are Ibadan South West Local Government Clinic, Town planning, Ring Road and Awodife Primary Healthcare centre, Bolumole.
Some of the items distributed include, Diapers, drugs, gloves, among others.
Speaking during the presentation, the club president, Mr Akindayo Famoyegun, said the gesture was in line with Rotary’s Maternal and Child Health month.
He charged people who have not joined Rotary to do so in order to support humanitarian causes.
“Rotary Club is an humanitarian organisation and usually every month, we do have a focus and the focus for the month of July is ‘Maternal and Child Health’ where we celebrate mother and child all over the world and that is we are here at Awodife Primary Healthcare Centre and Ibadan South West Local Government Clinic to support the nursing mothers and their children, so that the little we have, that we have contributed from our club, we are here to share with them.
“We want to also encourage nursing mothers to take good care of their children; they should let them get their vaccinations as and when due, most especially the vaccine for polio, and for other preventive diseases. They should also adhere strictly to the instructions given to them by health practitioners.”
In her remarks, the assistant officer in-charge of Awodife Primary Healthcare Centre, Mrs Abiola Ejalonibu, commended Rotary Club of Iyaganku Ibadan for the gesture, while calling on other well-to-do organisations to emulate what the club has been doing to better the society.
She said they were surprised with the items donated to nursing mothers despite the economic situation of the country.
Ejalonibu added that: “The club came at the right time in helping nursing mothers.
“We believe that the items distributed would go a long way in helping mothers and their children.”
