To complement parents’ effort as another school calendar commences, Rotary Club of Warri, District 9141, on Friday, distributed free exercise books to some pupils.
The pupils, who benefitted from the free books, were those of AldersTown Special Primary School and Merogun Primary School in the heart of Warri, Delta State.
Acting President of Rotary Club of Warri, District 9141, for 2019/2020 Rotary Year, Rotarian Bridget Ideji, led other members of the club to the exercise.
Ideji said the exercise was the club’s effort to mark the Basic Education and Literacy Month of September.
According to her, “Rotary International has set aside the month of September as the month that Rotarians go out to encourage people in their community and let them know the importance of getting an education.
“Without education, humanity can make no impact. Rotary has six focal areas by which we serve humanity, and Basic Education and Literacy is one of such areas by which we render services to humanity.
“That is why the Rotary Club of Warri has decided to touch the lives of pupils in our immediate community.
“I feel great that as an individual, I can impact the lives of pupils and even people I don’t know.

“I think serving humanity is one of the core things that God wants from we humans.”
The Assistant Governor, Rotary Club, Zone 6, Rotarian Clement Aboderin, in his remarks, said the exercise was in line with Rotary’s poise to serve humanity.
“Anything we do, we make sure to do it for the benefit of our community at large, making sure we do the little we can do to support education.
“The impact of presenting what will aid people in education goes beyond whatever it is we are seeing today,” he enthused.
Head Teachers of Alders Town Primary School and Moreogun Primary School, Mrs Rita Ugbameta and Mrs Elizabeth Omehoruwa, who were excited thanked the donors for the humanitarian gesture.
“Thank you for the exercise books. It was very thoughtful of you. Some of the students here don’t have note books.
“Their parents just brought them here without books since they are special students,” Mrs Ugbameta enthused.
Hundreds of exercise books, comprising 2A, 2B, 40L and 60L for Kindergarten and Primary classes, were distributed to the pupils, who expressed gratitude, respectively.
