Robbers invade Ibadan communities, kill night guard

Published by

ALL is not well with some Ibadan communities, as armed robbers continued to terrorise residents of Boluwaji, Araromi, Yejide Grammar School and Ehin Grammar in Molete, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The residents, who raised the alarm on Saturday over the continued disturbance of armed robbers that have laid siege to the area for the past two weeks, informed Sunday Tribune that a night guard who resumed work in the area last month was killed by the armed robbers when they attacked Ehin Grammar on Thursday evening.

A landlord in the area, who declined to mention his name, told Sunday Tribune that the night guard resumed work about a month ago and was yet to recieve his salary before he was killed.

“We are calling on the state government and other security agencies to come to our aid. The police have been very supportive but I think they need reinforcement. We are yet to unravel why these armed robbers laid seige to this area that has been relatively peaceful.”

Residents in the area who now live in palpable fear are worried over the spate of robbery attacks and are said to be considering other security options that would better secure their lives and property.

Sunday Tribune findings revealed that about 17 young men, who were suspected to be members of the notorious One Million Boys gang, stormed a three-storey building not too far from a popular church along Yejide Grammar School road and robbed the occupants of their valubales.

The high point of the robbery, Sunday Tribune gathered, was when the robbers asked occupants of the building (married and single) to come out and have sex with one another at gun point.

It was also gathered that on Friday evening and Saturday morning respectively, armed robbers stormed Ajet area of Ehin Grammar, carting away valuables and money.

Sunday Tribune also observed that residents in the affected areas now set up bonfires at night to protest against the nonstop robberies, which they said had started since November.
