Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday, made due their threat by issuing arrest warrant on the Chairman of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, and four other commissioners of the commission.
The arrest warrant followed the expiration of the 72-hour ultimatum given to them by the Assembly to appear before it Monday after the first 48-hour ultimatum expired last Friday.
The Assembly was presided over by its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule during plenary unanimously agreed for the arrest warrant on Justice Enebeli (retd) and four of his commissioners.
Earlier on Monday, RSIEC commissioner in charge of transport, logistics, and store, Ibiemebo Evelyn Thompson put up a resignation from the Commission bringing the number of RSIEC who have resigned in the heat of the political crisis in the state.
The Commissions cited the recent ruling of the Supreme Court which invalidated the October 5, 2024, local government council elections as the reason for their resignation.
Prior to Monday’s resignation, two other Commissioners Lazberry Nnah and Professor Simeon Weli had tendered their resignations last week also citing the same reason of the Supreme Court judgment.
