The Rivers State House of Assembly has demanded the dismissal of all commissioners and political appointees who were not screened by the Amaewhula-led Assembly, urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara to act accordingly.
Additionally, the lawmakers have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the commissioners and appointees, requiring them to appear before the House to explain why they have been spending funds without the Assembly’s approval through an appropriation law.
The Assembly made this demand on Wednesday during its plenary session, following the expiration of an earlier ultimatum issued to the state governor to present the 2025 appropriation bill or risk impeachment.

Also affected by the 48-hour ultimatum is the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Rtd), who has been summoned to appear before the Assembly within the given timeframe.
Announcing the order, Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhula stated that those summoned were expected to answer questions regarding the administration of their respective offices.
Regarding the RSIEC chairman, the Speaker noted that Justice Enebeli must explain why he conducted the ill-fated October 5, 2024, local government election without the Assembly’s approval and why RSIEC continues to spend funds in 2025 without an appropriation law while planning to conduct another election without a budget.
Amaewhula declared, “By the resolution of this House, the Clerk should include in the letter that if the chairman and commissioners fail to appear before this august Assembly, the House will have no option but to invoke the powers vested in us under Section 129 of the 1999 Constitution to issue a warrant of arrest to compel them to appear before this Assembly.”
