Alaowei Cleric Esq., National President of FOHURAC in a statement, on Friday, described the killing as one too many at a time peace was gradually returning to the Niger Delta.
“Our heart grieved and we felt bereaved over the news of the despicable acts of some hoodlums in the Niger Delta who attacked soldiers attached to the Joint Task Force in the region
“We condemn in its entirety, the action of the said gun men who perpetrated the act.
“This is one attack coming too many. Only recently two weeks ago, some unknown gun men in the same despicable manner, attacked and killed a mother and her son at their fishing camp near Ayakoromo town in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
“People should not bring criminality to the region to cause an unnecessary tension to the innocent riverine dwellers.
“We commensurate with the army council over the loss of its member.
“We also extend our heart felt condolence to the immediate family of the deceased who lost his precious life in defence of our collective existence.
“We will forever remember him for his onerous task of defending the territorial integrity of our dear country, ” Alaowei noted.
While appealing to the governments at all levels to fish out culprits behind the renewed acts of criminality in the creeks, the activist called on local communities in the creeks to synergise with security agencies to police waterways.
