Review adopted circular for dental officers — Aderemi, ADTN president

Published by

PRESIDENT, Association of Dental Technologists of Nigeria (ADTN), Comrade Raji Aderemi has called on Oyo State government to approve full implementation to SGL 17 for Dental Officer(Technology) and give those entitled the right placement even as it improves the quality of dental and healthcare services in the state.

Comrade Aderemi made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the association to Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Ololade Agboola during the third quarterly meeting of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) in Ibadan

He stated that although Oyo State adopted and domesticated the circular number: HCSF/SPSO/ODD/NCE/CND.100/S.9/T/36 that redesignated dental technologists as dental officer (Technology) in October 2020, approval for full implementation to SGL 17 for Dental Officer (Technology) was not granted.

According to him, “the circular from HCSF approved SGL 08-17 but the adopted version only approves SGL 08-16. We appeal to your office to approve full implementation to SGL 17 for Dental Officer (Technology) and give those entitled the right placement.”

Comrade Aderemi, while appreciating the new recruitment of dental Technologists and Dental Officer (Technology) by the state, urged that for greater motivation and increased productivity, dental laboratories are included by the state’s infrastructural development of the dental sector,  sponsorship for training in various areas of specialisation in dental technology.

He stated that the payment of teaching allowances for dental technologists and dental officers (Technology) are involved in the training of interns and SIWESS should also be considered as well as  the upward review of the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure  (CONHESS) salary structure for its members.

Responding, Mrs Agboola  urged the dental technologists to do more to enlighten the public on their role in improving facial appearances through dentures and other artificial appliances like artificial eye, nose, ear and other organs of the body they fabricate as awareness on their service in dental care is low.

According to her, Oyo State has a labour-friendly policy and assured that Governor Seyi Makinde had approved grade level 17 for all civil servants in Oyo state to ensure they can get to the peak of their career.
