An appeal has been made to Muslims in Lokoja and beyond to respect and obey the constituted authorities at the federal, state, and local government levels.
His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Maikarfi IV, the Maigari of Lokoja and Chairman of the Lokoja Traditional Council, made the appeal at the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration and Durbar held at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, Lokoja.
The traditional ruler said the stability, peace, and progress of any community can only be achieved when the people work together under a leadership that seeks their collective well-being.
The Maigari used the occasion to commend the Kogi State Government for its relentless efforts in ensuring the prompt payment of workers’ salaries, the ongoing construction of a standard World Bank-funded hospital in Lokoja, and a clinic in Felele.
This, the traditional ruler remarked, will increase the opportunity for people to access good quality medical services at affordable costs within a reasonable time frame. He urged the administration of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo to continue its good work in serving the people diligently.
While pointing out that he remains committed to the peace, unity, and progress of the people of Lokoja, he said his modest efforts in the past year of his reign have focused on sustaining the prevailing peace in Lokoja through dialogue, mediation, community engagement, and settling family and communal disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
The Maigari promised to continue fostering harmony among the people, saying part of his modest achievements includes the distribution of poverty alleviation palliatives to the poor and vulnerable in the community to cushion the effects of the global economic hardship.
The Maigari assured that he would continue to work tirelessly to support the less privileged and promote social harmony in his domain.
Furthermore, he urged youths to shun idleness, drug abuse, violent behaviour, and criminal activities and advised them to engage in productive ventures, seek education, acquire skills, and pursue entrepreneurship development.
The high point of the 2025 Durbar was the conferment of traditional titles on some deserving personalities who have offered selfless service to society.
