The National Chairman of the party, Reverend Olusegun Peters, who stated this in a statement made available to Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, said it was high time to take governance serious, reshuffle the cabinet and raise the people’s standards of living, the primary purpose of government
According to the party, it was only by the grace of God that Nigerians survived the harsh economic recession, political upheavals, insurgency, militancy and various agitations that shook the foundations of the nation’s existence.
The party lamented that the state of the nation was bad and called for patriotism by all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation to chart a new course that would deepen and strengthen the democratic encounter.
Said the party, “the New Year is yet another opportunity to renew our confidence in the fatherland and pray for peace, unity, tolerance and progress of the nation.
“Nigerians are resilience and enterprising, and are ever ready to build a strong, virile, prosperous and egalitarian democratic society if the political environment is conducive. In view of this, DPC calls on the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government to take immediate steps to accelerate the wheel of governance and provide dividends of democracy that will assuage the sufferings of the populace.
“The New Year offers Nigerians hope of a new beginning and restoration of social amenities the people lost in recent times”, the party added.
The DPC stated that it is time to set aside politics of bitterness and brigandage as the country approaches the crucial 2019 general elections.
“Accordingly, DPC calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission, to start early preparation for the elections to avoid fire brigade approach to this vital national responsibility that will showcase Nigeria’s democracy to the world. The party urges politicians to imbibe issue-based politics and avoid hates speech, rigging and violence that combined to truncate previous democratic governments.
“Nigerians desire and deserve free, fair, credible, transparent and acceptable elections and expect INEC to provide a level playing field for all the political parties and their candidates participating in various polls.
“As a key player in the nation’s political process, DPC is being repositioned to embrace all Nigerians who need a vibrant, resourceful and progressive political platform that will meet the yearnings of all marginalized citizenry and chart a way forward for our great nation.
“The future of Nigeria is bright. As we join hands to fight social injustice, oppression, corruption, electoral malpractices, political victimization, unemployment, insurgencies etc, Nigeria will be safe and great again”, DPC stressed.
