The House of Representatives, on Thursday, urged the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate the Oyo-Ogbomoso-Kwara federal highway without further delay.
This resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Ayodeji Alao-Akala, who sought the House’s intervention.
In his lead debate, Hon. Alao-Akala emphasised the critical need to promptly rehabilitate the road, which serves as a vital link between northern and southern Nigeria, accommodating significant daily traffic of both people and goods.
He noted that the poor condition of the highway has led to major bottlenecks, negatively impacting the socioeconomic activities of Nigerians who rely on the route.
Hon. Alao-Akala called on the Ministry of Works to prioritise the road’s repair to alleviate the economic challenges faced by Nigerian traders and travellers.
The motion was subsequently voted on, adopted, and referred to the joint Committee on Works and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for further legislative action.
