Members of the Southwest Caucus in the 10th House of Representatives on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, who died at the age of 96.
In a jointly issued condolence message, Chairman of the Southwest Caucus, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke; Majority Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka; and Secretary, Southwest Caucus, Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro, paid tribute to the late elder statesman.
Their statement reads:
“The Southwest Caucus of the House of Representatives joins Afenifere, the Yoruba race at home and in the diaspora, the government and people of Ogun State, and all well-meaning Nigerians in mourning the passing of an illustrious elder statesman, a foremost advocate of democracy, and a revered leader from the Southwest, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
“Pa Adebanjo’s transition marks the departure of a towering figure whose lifelong dedication to natural justice, equity, and good governance helped shape Nigeria’s democratic evolution.

“As a close associate of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and a founding member of the Action Group, his contributions to nation-building and the entrenchment of progressive governance remain unparalleled.
“A steadfast voice for restructuring, national unity, and true federalism, Pa Adebanjo exemplified integrity, courage, and unwavering patriotism.
“Through his leadership in Afenifere, he remained a principled and consistent advocate for the protection of democratic ideals and the socio-political advancement of Nigeria.
“The Southwest Caucus recognizes his immense sacrifices and contributions to the collective aspirations of our region and the nation at large.
“As representatives of the people, we reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals he so passionately championed.
“We pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and hope that his legacy continues to inspire generations to come.”
