The report is expected to be considered on the next legislative day to be determined by the House Committee on Rules and Business.
In the same vein, the House expressed support for the confirmation of the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya.
The House expressed the support after the adoption of the report of the joint House Committees on Defence and Army, which was presented by Hon Babajimi Benson.
In his lead debate, Hon Benson urged the House to confirm Major General Faruk Yahaya “as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having successfully undergone the screening process of the Committee.”
According to him, the joint Committee’s report followed the correspondence from Mr President for the confirmation of the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Hon Benson added that the joint Committee grilled the nominee and was satisfied with his response which formed the basis of their recommendation.
Also at the plenary, the House considered and adopted the recommendations of its Committee on Healthcare Services on a Bill for an Act to amend the compulsory treatment and care for victims of gunshots Act.
The lawmakers also expressed support for the proposed fine of N1 million for any healthcare provider that fails to report victims of gunshot wounds to security agencies while treating them, as part of efforts aimed at saving lives, and curb criminality in the country.
In his lead debate, Hon Yusuf Sununu stated that the committee conducted a public hearing on the matter and Nigerians were interested in the issue.
Hon. Sununu (APC-Kebbi) expressed optimism that the bill when passed into law will ensure victims of gunshots, chemical attacks and other bodily harm have access to healthcare.
