The House of Representatives on Thursday mandated the House committees on Defence and Federal Capital Territory, FCT to investigate the sale of the National Defence College Quarters, Zone C Apo, Abuja to individuals.
To this end, the House urged the Federal Capital Territory Administration to suspend all actions regarding the sale of the properties in Zone C Quarters, Apo being residences of staff and students of the National Defence College pending the outcome of investigations.
The House resolution followed a motion moved by Hon Tajudeen Obasa entitled, “need to investigate the sale of the National Defence College Quarters, Zone C, Apo, Abuja to individuals.”
The lawmaker while moving the motion raised concern that, “all the 88 blocks in the quarters have been sold by the FCTA to individuals who are currently processing the issuance of certificate of occupancy, C of uneven though the students and staff of the college are still occupying the properties .”
The procedure for the sale of the houses, he said did not follow due process as the occupants of the houses were given the right of first refusal, no announcements were made for the sale and no bidding process was conducted.
The motion scaled through when it was put to vote by the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara.
Meanwhile, the House has called on the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to send relief materials to the victims of the devastating rainstorm to reduce their sufferings.
The House also mandated house committee on NEMA to visit the family of the deceased and the injured and the Paramount ruler of Okpella Kingdom, HRM, the Okokpellagbe of Okpella, Alhaji Dr A.Y.E Dirisu.
According to the sponsor of the motion, Hon Johnson Oghuma ” the disaster also affected a community secondary school in Iddo while students were studying, destroyed two blocks of classrooms, pulled down electric poles and damaged over 100 houses in different communities in Okpella kingdom.”
He also said that, the development has rendered hundreds of people homeless and in need of assistance.
