Reps okay second reading bill seeking establishment of FMC, Ikole-Ekiti

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed to second reading the Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centres Act and Establish Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Ikole, Ekiti, Ekiti State, sponsored by Hon Akintunde Rotimi ( jrn)

While leading the debate at the plenary, the members representing Ekiti North 1 Federal Consistency of Ekiti State lamented the hardship faced by people in the various communities to have access to health facilities almost daily.

The Lawmaker lamented that in some cases, people would have to travel from about 60km to seek medical care at the existing Federal Medical Centre at Ido-Ekiti, which ought not to be so considering the importance of healthcare facilities to humankind

He passionately appealed to members to support the passage of the bill because of the importance of the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre at Ikole-Ekiti as a dividend of democracy to the people of the Constituency

When it was put into voice vote by the Speaker, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the plenary, it was unanimously supported by members

The Speaker consequently referred me to the House Committee on Health Institutions for further legislative action
