The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Honourable Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, has emphasised the importance of cybersecurity in the digital age.

The lawmaker reiterated this while delivering a keynote address at the ongoing Seminar on Cybersecurity for Belt and Road Countries in Shanghai, China.

The seminar, organised by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Shanghai Municipal Government, has brought together experts and policymakers from over 20 countries to discuss cybersecurity challenges and opportunities along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Highlighting the increasing threats to national security, economic development, and social stability, Hon. Olajide, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, stressed the need for international cooperation and collaboration to address the evolving cybersecurity landscape.

“The cybersecurity threats we face today are transnational in nature, and no single country can tackle them alone.

“It is imperative that we work together to share knowledge, best practices and resources to build a safer and more secure digital environment,” he said.

Hon. Olajide stated further that Nigeria’s participation at the seminar underscores government’s commitment to cybersecurity and its role in promoting international cooperation in this critical area.

The seminar, which will feature presentations and panel discussions on various topics, including cybersecurity governance, threat intelligence, and capacity building, will also have participants engage in hands-on training sessions and workshops to enhance their skills in cybersecurity.

The CIFAL Shanghai Conference is a significant platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration on cybersecurity issues and participants are expected to develop a joint statement outlining recommendations for enhancing cybersecurity cooperation among BRI countries.
