The command said it was one of the suspected cultists, identified as ThankGod Indoni, that was shot in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
It was gathered yesterday that police operatives responded to a distress call on Christmas eve about nefarious activities of the gang members, who opened fire on sighting them.
It was learnt that Indoni was hit by a police bullet and was subsequently arrested and taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where he later died.
Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat reiterated that there is no truth in the report that a policeman shot fellow officers while a gun battle lasted with suspected cult gang.
Contrary to the report, Butswat said the command wish to state in clear terms that the policeman actually shot a member of the cult gang, and not fellow policeman as claim
Continuing, the PPRO noted that 24 of December after a distress call, the police went to Arietalin a suburb in Yenagoa, where cult gang open fire on them, but were subsequently overpowered by superior gunfire of
the police.
The police thereafter arrested one Thankgod Indoni, 23years of age, who sustain serious bullet wounds and crushed him to the federal medical centre for treatment but he later died, as effort to revive him failed.
To this end, Butswat posited that the command is on the trail of the cult gang that escaped, assuring that they would be brought to book.
