The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has charged the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 33 local government areas (LGAs) in Oyo State to replicate his administration’s vision at the grassroots.

The governor said this on Friday during the swearing-in of the council bosses at an event held at the House of Chiefs, State Secretariat.

The council bosses emerged from the local government election held in the state on April 27.

The LGA chairmen and vice chairmen were administered an oath of office by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, after which they signed the oath book.

In his remarks at the event, state governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, Mr Adebayo Lawal, charged the council bosses to focus on people-oriented programmes and policies aiming towards the betterment of lives of the people.

Makinde maintained that the electoral processes that led to the emergence of the chairmen were credible, free and fair.

He consequently urged them to firmly uphold democratic values and rule of law in their various councils such that their tenures would be marked by unprecedented grassroots development.

The governor further tasked the newly inaugurated council chairmen to work assiduously in building their respective councils.

In his welcome address, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Segun Olayiwola, averred that the local government election affirmed the commitment of the present administration in Oyo State to fairness, transparency and accountability.

He urged the newly sworn-in Chairmen and their vice to work hand in hand, utilizing their expertise to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every nook and cranny of their respective local governments.

Olayiwola held that it was a new dawn in the local government system, urging them to work assiduously to build a more virile local government, devoid of acrimony or rancour.
