At least 500 businesswomen in Delta State have been empowered through the economic programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative, led by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
This was disclosed at an empowerment event organised by the initiative, held in Asaba over the weekend, where women entrepreneurs received essential business tools, including deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and grain grinding machines.
The intervention is part of a larger national programme by the Nigerian First Lady to impact 18,500 women across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
In her remarks at the occasion, Senator Tinubu, who was represented by the wife of the State Governor and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, noted that empowering women is essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG-5 (Gender Equality) and SDG-8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
She stated, “The items being distributed today are intended to equip our women with the tools and resources they need to build successful businesses and contribute to the prosperity of our great nation.”
Presenting the speech, Lady Catherine Onyeme, wife of the Deputy Governor, who read Tinubu’s speech on behalf of Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, emphasised the importance of investing in women, describing the empowerment programme as a crucial step towards building stronger, more resilient communities.
“Today, we witness the tangible manifestation of what it means to invest in the heartbeat of our communities – our women,” she said.
In her address, Deaconess Oborevwori commended the initiative, describing it as a catalyst for financial independence, food security, and an improved quality of life.
“These tools will do more than support small-scale businesses; they will open new doors to financial independence, improved household incomes, food security, and dignified living,” she affirmed.
She urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity, adding, “Let these resources be seeds that grow into sustainable businesses. May your success stories become beacons of hope for others to follow.”
Several beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed their appreciation to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing the initiative as a life-changing opportunity that would positively impact their businesses and families.
