Nigeria’s First Lady and National Chairman, Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated one billion naira (₦1bn) to Niger State under the Renewed Hope support programme for victims of flood, banditry, boat mishaps, and fire disasters in the state.
Senator Oluremi made the donation at the Government House, Minna, in addition to 2,000 bags of 50kg rice, 16,000 wrappers for women, and 100 pairs of shoes.
During a symbolic presentation, the Wife of the President said the purpose of the visit was to commiserate with the governor and people of the state over the devastating incidents.
She expressed her empathy to the affected persons, noting that she shares in the pain and grief of the families of the victims, and expressed optimism that the challenges can be overcome.
The First Lady acknowledged the President’s swift response and added that the support provided by the Renewed Hope Initiative is to complement the government’s efforts in alleviating the suffering of the victims.
Former governor Umaru Bago thanked the First Lady for her kindness and generosity to the people and government of Niger State, stating that she had previously supported other victims of disasters.
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, appreciated the First Lady for her immeasurable love and kindness, saying her efforts through the Renewed Hope Initiative will go a long way in transforming the lives of disaster victims.
He said the empathy and love she has always shown is a clear testament to her exemplary leadership qualities, and encouraged her to continue to lead the nation on the right path.
Governor Bago noted that Niger State is home to many tributaries, which places the state at risk of flooding, adding that the state government has been working to mitigate the impact.
Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, in his remarks, described the gesture of the Wife of the President as commendable, saying her visit has brought humanitarian relief to people who have suffered greatly.
