Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has distributed N50 million to 250 elderly people in Niger State.
She stated that the gesture is part of the launch of the second edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) across the country.
Senator Tinubu was represented at the event, which took place at the Women Multipurpose Hall in Minna, by Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, the wife of Niger State Governor. Hajiya Fatima was, in turn, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affirmative, Mrs. Mary Noel-Berje.
She explained that the scheme, designed to support the welfare of elderly citizens annually, will benefit 250 senior citizens aged 65 and above in each of the 36 states of the federation.
The First Lady also announced that veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) would benefit from the scheme.

According to Senator Tinubu, the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has increased the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide greater support to elderly citizens during the festive season.
She further stated that a total of N1.9 billion will be disbursed across the country.
Senator Tinubu commended the efforts of state First Ladies, Renewed Hope Initiative state coordinators, and other partners in making the programme a success.
She also congratulated the senior citizens selected as beneficiaries and encouraged them to prioritize their health during the festive season.
Bako Bawa, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the First Lady and the Niger State Governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, for their generosity. He prayed for the success of the current administration and their re-election in 2027.
The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) is a clear demonstration of the present administration’s commitment to the welfare of elderly citizens.
The scheme is expected to positively impact the lives of the beneficiaries and their families.
