Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and members of the 10th House of Representatives on Thursday saluted Nigeria’s Armed Forces for their courage, service, patriotism, and discipline as they secure the country against internal and external aggression.

The Speaker, in his message to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, paid glowing tribute to the fallen heroes and the resilience of men and women in service, who have committed their lives to protecting citizens and non-citizens within the Nigerian territory.

Speaker Tajudeen especially hailed members of the Armed Forces who have paid the supreme price while on duty, describing them as national heroes whose labour should never be in vain.

While commending the Armed Forces for being critical stakeholders in the maintenance of Nigeria’s democracy, Speaker Tajudeen said their service has contributed to the socio-economic and political stability the country has enjoyed since 1999.

The Speaker restated the commitment of the House to empowering the security and intelligence agencies towards ensuring the safety of life and property, which is the primary duty of the government.

He also expressed his confidence in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the security challenges facing the country, especially with the significant adjustments in the country’s security architecture.

The Speaker wished Nigeria’s Armed Forces a happy Remembrance Day.

On his part, Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Akin Rotimi, who showered encomium on the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Force, acknowledged the supreme price paid in defence of our nation’s peace, unity, and sovereignty.

“On this Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, the House honours the gallantry, discipline, and unwavering dedication of our military personnel, whose sacrifices continue to safeguard the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and preserve the freedoms enjoyed by our people.

“Those who defend our nation deserve not only our gratitude today, but our lasting commitment to the peace they secure.

“Their courage in confronting terrorism, banditry, and criminal violence, and their steadfast support to sister security agencies across the country, remains a service Nigeria must always honour.

“The House also acknowledges the resilience of serving personnel across all theatres of operation, often under difficult and dangerous conditions, and recognises the enduring sacrifices of their families, who share in the burdens of national service,” Rep. Rotimi noted.

In his remarks, Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Benson, stated that the House of Representatives welcomes the redesignation of the annual commemoration as Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day by the Federal Government, noting that the new designation rightly underscores the dual importance of honouring the memories of the nation’s fallen heroes while actively celebrating the bravery, professionalism, and patriotism of serving military personnel.

He added: “This balanced recognition affirms that national remembrance must go hand in hand with appreciation for those who continue to stand watch in defence of Nigeria’s peace, security, and sovereignty.”

“As a parliament, the House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to supporting policies, legislation, and oversight that strengthen the welfare, capacity, and professionalism of the Armed Forces, while advancing a secure and peaceful Nigeria for all citizens.

“May the souls of our fallen heroes rest in perfect peace. May their service continue to inspire national unity, civic duty, and collective responsibility,” he prayed.
