Released Chibok girls: Ondo ACPN campaign office lauds Buhari

The media campaign Director-General of Ade Ogunjumelo, the Ondo State governorship candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Mr Olushola Ogunmiluyi, has lauded the Muhammadu Buhari-led government, over the role it played in securing the release of some abducted Chibok girls by the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

Ogunmiluyi in a statement issued on Sunday, said President Buhari should not relent in his efforts at  ensuring the release of the remaining abducted Chibok girls who were still under the captivity of the Boko Haram, assuring the president of his unalloyed support in his fight against corruption.

He added that Buhari’s style of governance and subsequent release of the Chibok girls by the insurgents was a clear signal that the security of lives and property in Nigeria could be guaranteed.

“With what the Federal Government has been able to do relating to the release of some of the abducted Chibok girls, it is no longer in doubt that the security of lives and property in Nigeria remains intact and unshaken.

“I am particularly happy that the government of President Buhari has been able to achieve what the immediate past government could not achieve in eight years.”

It will be recalled that 21 of abducted Chibok girls were set free last Thursday by the insurgents at Banki, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon, after 913 days in captivity.

The freed Chibok girls were among the over 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the insurgents from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, 2014.

In a related development, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has expressed joy over the release of 21 of the 200 schoolgirls of Chibok adopted by the dreaded Boko Haram, over two years ago, describing it as a confirmation of a serious minded and focused government that is determined to secure a better future for Nigerians.

The IPAC chairman in Delta State, Mr Fred Obi who spoke to journalists in Asaba, at the weekend, said “The achievement has indeed renewed the hope of Nigerians in their firm belief in democracy, that with focused leaders in place, Nigeria will in no distant time be moved from a Third World nation and be rightly placed among the comity of nations, and that there are political solutions to every issues bedeviling us as a people.”

The PPA chieftain said while efforts should be made to properly rehabilitate the 21 girls that had regained there freedom, government should also do everything humanly possible to ensure the freedom of the remaining girls, in order  to reunite with their families and loved ones.

He stressed that one of the primary responsibilities of government is to protect lives and property, adding that government at all levels must use this achievement to focus more on the security of the citizens of this great nation.

The chairman also  appealed to militants to give peace a chance, and  to embrace dialogue with the Federal Government, noting that the government should on its part be seen to be open to genuine negotiation, putting into consideration the consequences of their actions to the region.

“Political solution is always the best option to resolving contending issues in a democratic dispensation, this is why the Federal Government should immediately withdrew the military from the region and still keep open the options of dialogue.”

“It is indeed a thing of joy for this gladsome news, I urge government to build on it, as all stakeholders in governance are advised to initiate the building of bridges of good governance.
