Real estate industry needs financing like others – Dr Okonkwo

Published by

Nedcomoaks properties boss, Dr Kennedy Okonkwo, has called on the government to look into the real estate industry and consider it for financing.
The estate developer made the statement during a courtesy visit paid to him by some top executives of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) in Lagos earlier this week.

According to Dr Okonkwo while receiving his guests, it is quite saddening that the government sees developers as wealthy people, hence little attention is paid to the sector.

“Real estate needs to start getting financing from the government like some other industries too, this collaborative effort will go a long way to ease the burden of sole developing” he said.

Hinting on the main reason for the visit, Barrister Taiwo Ogunbodede revealed that the visit was mainly to foster the growth and development of REDAN, “we need people like you to make our voice as a body as audible as we want it” he stated.

Seconding Barrister Ogunbodede, Barrister Akintoye Adeoye opined that there are so many fundamentally wrong structures in place in Nigeria but pushing for correction would only be possible with people like Dr Kennedy in the association.
Other issues facing developers in the country were discussed by the body as they affect the association and individual developers.
According to Dr Okonkwo, the issues are the same everywhere and a well structured association can thrash the issues and make headways.
“REDAN is managed by qualified and capable people, yet we need to bring more people on board as big things can be achieved with big numbers” he said, to which Dr. Kunle Adeyemo of Sterling Homes readily agreed and added that the help of Dr. Okonkwo would be needed to get across to all the other developers in his caucus.
Without much ado, the host readily agreed to be a part of the body, promised to do all in his power to see that structure is put in place in the association.
“When REDAN takes off, other developers across the nation will see themselves as a part of the body. We must localize our meetings and let every developer feel relevant, let them know they are not alone!” He emphasized.
Other issues discussed in the meeting include the problem of multiple bodies supervising sites and talking about the same things… “This must be checked and weighed by the REDAN”
Barrister  Akintoye agreed adding that “we have to intensify our efforts to stop the harassment”.
The last issue discussed was the incessant case of building collapse in the state “We must ensure that quacks are not building” Dr. Okonkwo said.
The meeting was attended by Barrister Taiwo Ogunbodede of Cross and Churchill limited, who led the delegation; Barrister Akintoye Adeoye of New Creations Properties; Dr Kunle Adeyemo, Sterling Homes boss; Pastor Kennedy Okoruwa of Pentagons Real Estate and Chief Emeka Oranugo of Strategic Shelters Development limited.
