Ramadan: Rep Ereyitomi hosts Warri Muslims

A member of the House of Representatives for Warri Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, has hosted Arewa Muslims and other Islamic faithful to an Iftar dinner in Warri, Delta State.

The gathering included Islamic clerics, women, and youths from various mosques in Warri Federal Constituency, particularly Warri and neighbouring Effurun.

Also in attendance were prominent political figures from Warri South, Warri South West, and Warri North LGAs, which make up the constituency.

Seated alongside Ereyitomi to welcome the Muslim community were business mogul, Evangelist Tony Aderojo (alias TONCO), Delta State Governor’s Special Adviser on Community Development, Dr Tony Agbolayah, Warri South LGA Chairman, Mr Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, his Vice, Mr Kingsley Edafiadjebre, and Warri South West LGA Chairperson, Mrs Christy Omamofe.

Other dignitaries included former Warri North LGA Chairman, Ambassador Adughe Okorodudu, former Warri South West LGA Vice Chairman and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Affairs, Mr Bleson Omadoye, Warri South LGA Secretary, Mr Emma Nunu, PDP Warri South Chairman, Mr Richard Pessu, PDP Warri South Publicity Secretary, Mr Emiko Oghomienor, and PDP Warri South West Women’s Leader, Ms Rose Tulu.

In his address, Ereyitomi urged the Muslim community to dedicate time to prayers for Delta State and Nigeria, stressing that Ramadan provides an opportunity for reflection and national supplication.

Reflecting on the significance of Ramadan, which coincides with the Christian Lenten season, he called for introspection and a renewed commitment to national unity.

He commended the Arewa and other Muslim adherents for fostering peace and harmony with their host communities and encouraged them to sustain the spirit of coexistence.

“Let us remember that we are one community. The North, South, and West are only administrative divisions. We must remain united because segregation weakens both us and our government at all levels,” Ereyitomi said.

“This sacred month of reflection and renewal reminds us to choose stability over strife, collaboration over conflict, and dialogue over discord,” he further urged.

The highlight of the evening was a special prayer session for Ereyitomi, his family, and his constituents. This was followed by a sumptuous Iftar dinner and the presentation of Ramadan gifts.

Ereyitomi also donated ₦1 million each to no fewer than 15 mosques in Warri and Effurun to support infrastructure upgrades.

The gesture was met with joy and praise from beneficiaries, who described it as “unprecedented and uncommon.”

In his vote of thanks, the spokesman for the Muslim faithful, Mallam Ahmed Abdul-Kadiri Shuru, expressed deep appreciation for Ereyitomi’s generosity.

“Permit me to speak the truth: Warri Federal Constituency has had several representatives in the House of Representatives since 1999. None has shown the level of kindness you have, Rt. Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi,” Shuru said.

“No representative has ever invited the Muslim community to their home to celebrate a Muslim festival. Your gesture is even more remarkable because you have chosen a time when Nigerians need support the most. Thank you, sir.”

Shuru assured Ereyitomi of the community’s unwavering support now and in the future.

The event concluded with Ereyitomi and his guests personally presenting cheques to the beneficiaries.
