The Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army, based in Minna, hosted an interfaith dinner, bringing together Muslims and Christians to break their fast during Ramadan and Lent and to foster unity.
In his address, the Commander of TRADOC, Major General Kevin Aligbe, emphasised the significance of the occasion, stating that it went beyond physical abstinence from food and drinks. He highlighted the importance of sacrifice and self-reflection during periods of fasting, saying, “Whether you are a Muslim or Christian, fasting is a sacrifice that draws us closer to our Maker.”
Aligbe also stressed the need for Nigerians to pray for the country’s leaders, from the presidency to governors, local government chairmen, ministers, and members of the Armed Forces.
He acknowledged the sacrifices of military personnel deployed in various theatres of operation, saying, “We owe it to them to make their families feel comfortable while they are away.”
He expressed gratitude to the government and people of Niger for their support and hospitality, promising that the Nigerian Army would reciprocate by ensuring greater security in the state and beyond.
Earlier in his welcome address, Brigadier General Dantani Danjuma, Acting Director of Examination at TRADOC, stated that the period of fasting is a time for prayers, charity, self-improvement, and a reminder that diversity is a source of strength and commitment. He encouraged guests to enjoy the feast and expressed gratitude to the Commander of TRADOC for providing financial support and opportunities for people of both faiths to come together.
Danjuma extended prayers for peace, progress, and continuous unity, urging everyone to uphold the values of tolerance and respect for one another.
The event, which brought together military personnel, government officials, and civilians, aimed to promote unity and interfaith harmony.
