A rainstorm that occurred on Saturday wreaked havoc across several parts of Ekiti State, leaving many public and residential buildings, as well as business centres, severely damaged.
The storm, which followed a torrential downpour, caused significant destruction in key areas of the state, particularly in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. Affected areas include Irona/Okeoriomi, Mathew Street, Okesha, Egbewa, Olaoluwa, and Ajisolun.
Most notably, residential buildings, public structures, and business centres were badly impacted, with roofs completely blown off. In addition, the signal mast of a well-known radio station in Ado-Ekiti was severely damaged by the storm.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji has expressed his sympathy with the affected residents, particularly as the damage caused by the rainstorm led to a disruption in the station’s broadcasts.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji confirmed that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had been instructed to immediately assess the damage and begin providing support to the victims.
Assuring the people of Ekiti that the government would stand by them during this challenging time, Governor Oyebanji urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear, as the government takes stock of the damaged properties and prepares an appropriate response.
“We are in it together. The Biodun Oyebanji administration is committed to the welfare and wellbeing of the people of the state and will not leave any stone unturned in providing timely assistance to the victims of the rainstorm,” the statement concluded.
