In a landmark ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Honourable Rachel Kufre Nse was formally inaugurated as a member of the newly constituted North-Central Development Commission (NCDC).
The event, which marks a significant step toward equitable development and regional integration, was presided over by the Honourable Minister of Regional Planning, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Honourable Nse, a representative from the South-South region, was appointed to the 19-member board to oversee strategic interventions in the North-Central geopolitical zone.
Her inclusion reflects the administration’s deliberate effort to ensure national representation and cross-regional collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s complex developmental needs.
The NCDC was established by an act of the National Assembly to tackle challenges such as insecurity, infrastructural decay, and unemployment in the North-Central states, including Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Honourable Nse brings an impressive record of public service to her new role, having previously served on the board of the Alvan Ikoku Federal Polytechnic, Owerri.
In her address following the ceremony, she expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and her political mentor, Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
She pledged to serve with diligence and fairness.
“I assure you all that I will serve with integrity, fairness, and diligence.
“Under the mandate of the NCDC, I will work towards ensuring that the South-South region receives adequate attention while contributing to the broader vision of sustainable growth and inclusive development across Nigeria,” she stated.
The NCDC board is chaired by Mr Cosmas T. Akyhir from Benue State, with Tsenyi Cyril Yiltsen of Plateau State as the Managing Director.
The commission is expected to commence full operations soon, with a focus on key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
Honourable Nse’s appointment is a testament to the growing recognition of women leaders in Nigeria’s governance landscape.
