The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Port Harcourt Zone, held the grand opening of its zonal office complex on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Emene Enugu.
The complex, which is located on the Enugu -Abakaliki section of the Enugu-Cameroon borders Expressway of the trans-African highway, incorporates a Secretariat building and a Guest House.
In his address of welcome, the Zonal Chairman of the Port Harcourt zone of the PTD, Comrade Peter Muodebelu, fondly called Onwa, paid glowing tribute to President Mohammed Buhari and Labour Minister, Dr Chris Ngige, just as he commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, whose government he described as very labour friendly.
Onwa went down memory lane tracing the origin of the PTD to 1983 as well its chequered journey to erecting a zonal secretariat which was sited in Enugu as a central point to serve all parts of the Port Harcourt zone.
He solicited the support and cooperation of members to take the branch to a higher level, even as he appealed for financial support for equipment of the new complex and for allied services.
Lending his voice to that of the Chairman, Comrade Oliver Ekwueme, Secretary of the Organising Committee for the event lauded the zonal chairman for his onerous efforts which had engendered in the monumental achievements record midway into tenure such as the project being commissioned.
In his words, and on behalf of the Committee, Ekwueme said inter alia, “he(Chief Peter Muodebelu, Onwa), is a man after our heart”.
This event was graced by stakeholders, dignitaries, and the general public including, Senator Obinna Ogba, Chief Joseph Okafor, MD, Jezco Group; Sir Daniel N. Chukwudozie, MD, Dizzy Group; Hon Dayyabu Garga, 2nd Deputy National Chairman, PTD; Comrade Dalimon Oladiti, PTD National Chairman; Comrade Olawole Afolabi, General Secretary NUPENG; Comrade Prince Akporefa, President NUPENG, among many other guests.
The opening of the complex named “PTD House”, also featured award investiture to distinguished stakeholders.
