Psaltry International Company Limited (PIL), an indigenous agro-allied company founded in 2005 for marketing of cassava produce, elevation of farming business in rural areas and production of Food Grade Starch and High Quality Cassava Flour from cassava has announced the establishment of the first ever cassava-based Sorbitol factory in Africa funded by FCMB (First City Monument Bank), under the CACS scheme (Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme) of CBN (Central bank of Nigeria) and is to be completed by the end of 2019.

PIL has concluded plans to establish the Sorbitol’s factory Iseyin, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo state, saying that the factory would have the capacity to deliver 24 tons per day.

The factory is projected to produce 25,000 direct and indirect jobs and will also empower 10,000 rural farmers and farm families living within 80km radius to the factory covering more than 20 host communities around Oke-Ogun.

Sorbitol is a sweetener, colourless liquid with 60 per cent sweetness ratio to sucrose (common table sugar), its calories ratio is about 40 per cent lower to sucrose which makes it the best option for diabetic persons. Its humectants property makes a necessary item in the cosmetic industry and in the production of toothpaste.

PIL established its 20 tons per day starch factory in 2012 and an additional production line of 30 tons per day capacity in 2015 to meet more customer demands and satisfaction.

With 400 ha factory land located at Alayide Village, Psaltry works with over 5000 smallholder farmers farming over 5000ha of land to supply cassava which is the raw material needed for its operation.

The company recently got its FSSC,(Food Safety System Certification) 22000 certification for the scope of Production and Packaging of Food Grade Cassava Starch and Cassava Flour.

PIL has been playing a vital role by investing in community projects and financial support to outgrower farmers, communities, charity organizations and enabling further development beyond their own ventures.
