There was tension in Kano city on Thursday as some hoodlums who joined the ongoing hunger nationwide protest allegedly vandalised shops, offices and filling stations in the metropolis.
These protesters in their hundreds invaded a supermarket, Sandaraki Supermarket, Ruofaida Shops, two filling stations and some small shops along Maiduguri Road, Zoo Roads and other places that were completely vandalised and looted away.
Other areas which saw vandals carrying dangerous weapons are Hotoro, Maiduguri Road, and Ahmadu Bello Way, among others.Â
Most of the shops along the road leading to the state secretariat were looted while burnfires were set up on State road not far to Government HouseÂ
However, security personnel had to shoot into the air to disperse them in front of the government house.
Also, an official car of Arewa Radio was damaged by #EndBadGovernance protesters at the entrance of the Kano State government house.
However, trouble started when some of the protesters were vandalising some government properties outside the government house, an action that met police resistance.
The policemen fired teargas to disperse the demonstrators, who, in return, started throwing big stones and sticks at random at any vehicle in sight.
The Arewa Radio news team, comprising two reporters and a driver of the damaged vehicle, narrowly escaped the attack and left the scene unhurt.
Meanwhile, some suspected hoodlums at Sadaraki Supermarket, situated opposite the Kano Zoological Garden, attempted to break into a shopping complex in the area.
Though the thugs threw stones at the glass of the shopping complex, they could not break in.
A police officer, who spoke to our correspondent at the scene, said a joint task force quickly intervened and dispersed the crowd.
The officer, who showed our correspondent a knife cut in his hand, confirmed that some of the thugs were arrested.
