Protest rocks Akungba-Akoko as indigene stabs Ondo varsity student to death

student of Akungba-Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State was reportedly stabbed to death allegedly by an indigene of the town.

The victim whose identity is still unknown was said to have been stabbed to death by a suspected cultist who is an indigene of the town over N1,000 which resulted in misunderstanding.

According to a source, the incident which happened within the town led to protest by some of the students of the institution who vowed to avenge the killing of the student.

The source said the details of the incident still remain sketchy but added that, ” I can confirm to you that one of the students was killed this morning and an indigene of the town has been fingered to be behind the killing.

He stated further that after all attempts to save his life proved abortive, his remains had been deposited at the morgue.

According to him, the students, reacting to the incident,  mobilise themselves to the residence of the suspect in the town and set the house ablaze before the intervention of the security agencies and some lecturers who persuaded the angry students against mounting road blockage over the incident.

Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, said the uproar was caused by the killing of a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

Odunlami explained that “an indigene had an issue with one of the students and one thing led to the other, leading to open confrontation and the indigene stabbed the student which resulted to the student’s death.

“Students of the university took to the street to protest, mobilsed themselves to the house of the mother’s suspect  and set it ablaze. The corpse of the student had been taken to the morgue by police.

“Men of the Nigerian Police from the Ikare-Akoko and Iwaro Oka had also been drafted to the scene of the incident to restore normalcy in the community”
