Nigerian Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council (NENYLC) has vehemently condemned in strongest terms the hoisting and flying of the Russian flag in some parts of the country during the nationwide hunger protest, describing the action as treasonable.
However, the Vice president of the body, Comrade Balarabe Rufai made this known while addressing journalists at Kano Press Centre adding that flying of the Russian flag during protest was undemocratic and unconstitutional.
He then stated that “the ongoing protest as we are all witnesses have been characterized with looting and destruction of public and private properties; and the most unfortunate event was the flagging up Russian flag which was undemocratic and unconstitutional, unpatriotic leading to treasonable offenses.
Rufai therefore disclosed that” The
scenario has awakened all well-meaning Nigerians that there are hidden forces working day and night to bring destruction that will lead to violent disintegration of our dear country Nigeria.”
The NENYLC, however, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address headlong the major problems that led to the call for protest, particularly the fuel subsidy removal.
“While we acknowledge recent speeches from our President as one step forward, on the other hand, it has been criticized for not answering directly the demands of the protesters, most particularly, subsidy removal, and getting food directly to the table of the downtrodden.”
The body further appealed to the National Assembly to provide the needed legislation that can facilitate the resuscitation of moribund refineries in Nigeria.
The group also advocated for the immediate suspension of the protest to pave the way for a dialogue that can bring permanent solutions to Nigeria’s problems.
