President of Nigeria supporters club hails Catholic men football tournament

The President-General of Nigerian Football Supporter Club Worldwide and the President Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, Dr Rafiu Oladipo has commended Engr Moses Osinachi for sponsoring a football competition in the Catholic Church.

Dr Oladipo who was speaking at the Kick-off of the Engr Moses Osinachi Football Tournament at Papal’s Ground in Abuja, said the football tournament will not only foster unity among members of the church, but among Nigerians.

“I love the game of football; I have been in football for 45 years. If Moses could do this for the Church, then he is doing it for Nigeria, the church is not one, it is all over the country, and I think what he has done will encourage other members in the church to be able to come together as a family and unite.

“Football is a leveller, it unites not only the church, the community, the state, the country and the entire world, so I am happy with him for putting up this tournament”, he stated.

Engr Moses Osinachi, the Chief sponsor of the tournament said the competition was aimed at making the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) to be more active in sports.

He said the tournament will go a long way in fostering unity among participating parishes and the church in general.

“We want the Catholic Men Organization to be more active in sports, and when you talk about sports, it is all about good health. It is a way to foster unity among the Catholic Men Organization and to unify the parishes in the sense that we see ourselves as brothers.

“This is just the maiden edition, we want to test run it and see how it goes, then it will be an annual event”, Engr Osinachi noted.

The Secretary Planning Committee of the Football tournament, Marcel Anyatonwu, said there are 16 participating parishes with the Bwari Deanery of the Abuja Archdiocese.

“We started by looking at the CMO. We have 16 parishes within the Bwari deanery participating in the tournament. We are using it as a test run, but subsequently, we want to involve many other parishes.

“There are prizes for the winners of the tournament. The winners will go home with trophies and cash prizes”, Anyatonwu added.
