Couples, especially Christians couples, have been charged to be intentional about creating healthy family relationships and to also work hard to nurture their families so as to keep them from falling apart.
The Regional Superintendent, Orogun Region of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Pastor Emmanuel Sunday Famuyide, gave the admonition while speaking at a Marriage Seminar organised by the Christ Apostolic Church Men’s Association, Oke Ibukun District Co-ordinating Council.
At the seminar with the theme: Domestic Violence: Causes, Effects and Solutions, held at CAC Oke Ibukun, Ososami Street, Oke Ado, Ibadan, Pastor Famuyide charged husbands and wives to work in unity to build a healthy family, saying that couples are the ones who would build their homes to a place of love and not just with prayers.
He regretted that many families, including those of ordained clerics, live in subdued bitterness, pointing out that a lot of couples have been found to have turned their backs on each other, harbour cold relationships and only live together as strange bedfellows.

Famuyide said the main cause of this malaise was mainly incompatibility on a number of levels, noting that spiritual incompatibility, educational incompatibility, disparity in habits and incompatibility in visions, goals and ambitions were the root cause of coldness in marriage.
In addition to incompatibility, he also cited poverty, barrenness, lack of communication or silence and lack of respect for each other as other factors which he said had raised the number of cold families in Christendom.
He therefore charged the couples in attendance to note these and guard against them by educating their children and wards, saying knowledge of Christ, learning to be disciplined, and deliberate work to make your home good were lessons that must be handed down to the younger ones.
Famuyide, who described marriage as “a union of two forgivers,” also advised couples against addiction to mobile phones and social media, and warned that “prayers don’t build good homes; you have to work to make your home good.”
Earlier in an opening address, the CAC Oke Ibukun District Superintendent, Pastor Paul Olatunji Sodeke, commended the District’s Men’s Association for the maiden marriage seminar, saying it was meant to make marriage one to be enjoyed and not to be endured.
Pastor Sodeke said the seminar was organised with the aim “to strengthen our marriages and make the home better.
All 10 Districts in the Oke Ibukun DCC, namely Tabernacle, English Mega, Zion City, Ayo Igbala, Agbamu, CRIN, Idi Odo, Mount of Mercy, Araromi, Oke Ibukun II were all represented at the seminar.
