Power supply: FG commissions mobile substations in Oyo, Ogun

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to an uninterrupted power supply with the commissioning of 63MBA and 142/33KV mobile substations at Sapade and University of Ibadan in Oyo and Ogun states, respectively, on Friday.

The project was executed by the FGN Power Company in collaboration with Siemens Energy.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, at the commissioning of the projects, described it as a significant milestone in the implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), aimed at modernising Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

“The commissioning of these mobile substations is a testament to our commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable power to all Nigerians. This project aligns with the Federal Government’s vision to modernise Nigeria’s power sector and improve the quality of life for our citizens. We are proud to be part of this transformative initiative.

“These Mobile Substations, along with other equipment undergoing installation under the Pilot Phase of the PPI, represent a strategic deployment aimed at improving the transmission capacity constraints by over 1300 MW across the nation.”

In his address, the MD/CEO of FGN Power Company, Mr Kenny Anuwe, stated: “We are delighted to commission these state-of-the-art mobile substations. This achievement underscores our dedication to providing innovative solutions to Nigeria’s power challenges. By strategically deploying these mobile substations, we are addressing critical infrastructure gaps and enhancing the overall power system’s capacity and reliability.

“We are committed to continuing our efforts to deliver reliable and affordable power to all Nigerians. This particular substation, located at the University of Ibadan, holds special significance. It will not only improve the power supply to the university but also to the surrounding communities. By providing a more stable and efficient power supply, we are empowering students, faculty, and staff to excel in their academic and research endeavours.”

Power Transformer Installations: FGN Power Company has successfully installed, energised, and commissioned eight Power Transformers, contributing an additional 569.6 MW to the transmission network.

“Mobile Substation Deployments: Five mobile substations have been successfully deployed at Ajah, Jebba, Kwanar Dangora, the University of Ibadan, and Saapade, adding 252 MW to the grid. Overall, these efforts have resulted in a substantial 821.6 MW increase in the national grid’s transmission capacity.

“The newly commissioned substations are part of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), a comprehensive plan to modernise and expand Nigeria’s power infrastructure. This initiative aims to address the nation’s power challenges and ensure a reliable and sustainable power supply for all Nigerians.”

In his remarks, the MD/CEO of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Francis Agoha, assured the residents of the company’s commitment to uninterrupted power supply. He stated that the commissioning of the substation would further boost the transmission of electricity in the affected areas. Agoha said the projects would enhance the growth of businesses in the area.
