Police raid, destroy criminal camps in Anambra

Police in Anambra say it has raided and destroyed a camp operated by suspected criminal gangs in the forest of Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government of the State.

The raid came barely 24 hours after yet-to-be-identified arsonists attacked a Police Divisional Headquarters in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra disclosed this in Awka on Saturday.

The police spokesperson said the joint forces operation led by the Police was part of the effort to hunt down the attackers.

Ikenga said six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) primed for attacks and two Walkie Talkies were recovered from the camps during the operation.

He said the raid on the forests in search of insurgents and their camps was ongoing to eliminate the terrorists; rescuing abducted victims and recovering firearms and stolen vehicles in their possession.

“Yesterday, March 29, the joint security force raided the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South and found scattered camps of the insurgents.

“Also recovered were substantial food and groceries supplies.

“All the camps were subsequently destroyed to deny the insurgents bases for launching of attacks.

Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, had assured the people of adequate security while wishing them happy Easter.

He called on citizens to cooperate with the Police in identifying hideouts of insurgents who were working to destabilise the State.

“The CP assures that the Police will jealously protect the sources of its information to protect informers from harm.

”He prays that the Peace of Christ which passes all understanding reigns across the length and breadth of the State,” he said.
