Police parade 55 suspects, recover 439 arms, ammunitions in two months

THE Police in Ogun State on Tuesday paraded 55 suspects said to have been involved in armed robbery, murder, kidnapping among other crimes.

The arrest of the suspected criminals was made between last December and January 2018 in different parts of the State and other South-western states.

The State Police Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, while addressing newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, the State capital, noted that the Command was able to have recorded the success based on timely information and intelligence from members of the public.

He, therefore, expressed the resolve of his officers and men to rid off criminals and their activities in the State in the New Year.

Iliyasu said that 10 AK 47 rifles; 1 AK 49 Rifle, 15 pump action guns, and 16 locally made pistols were recovered from the suspects.

Other items recovered include eight vehicles, 140 bags of Indian hemp, and fake car number plates among others.

Samuel Lucky who was one of the suspects arrested for alleged kidnapping confessed to the crime, saying that the kidnapping gang formed in 2013, usually demand ransom of about two million naira from victims.

The commissioner was particularly irked by the activities of one suspected criminal who was arrested by the police in the night for transporting 140 bags of Indian hemp from Ilara, a border town of Ogun State to Benin Republic.
