the Delta State Police Command has paraded at least 50 suspected criminals, including kidnappers, cultists, robbers, and a man who allegedly adulterated alcoholic drinks in the month of December.
Also, over 323 live cartridges, 20 live ammunition and two vehicles were recovered.
The state Commissioner of Police, Zana Ibrahim who paraded the suspects, said of the 28 cultists, 18 Black Axe and Viking members were arrested in Ibusa during the Iwu festival. A fight reportedly broke out, leading to the death of two persons, one Frank Chinedu and Chijoke Aneaya, while the house of one Okonji Augustine was set ablaze in a reprisal attack.
According to him, four persons were arrested in connection with the kidnap of a 14-year-old girl (name withheld) who was raped by the gang at Isukwa junction before demanding a ransom of N2 million.
Acting on the tip off, the anti-kidnapping squad in synergy with anti-cultism team smashed the syndicate and rescued the girl after six days in captivity, the Commissioner said.
One Ugochukwu Alozie, 39 years old of Idesoh Street was nabbed for alleged hot drink adulteration.
CP Ibrahim said DPO “B” Division, Warriors and his team arrested the suspect with cartons of Red Label, Royal Circle, Grand Master, Mc Dowells, 501 hot drinks and 25 litres of Ethanol, among others.
The suspect however claimed he bought some of the original hot drinks and mixed them with ethanol. The matter has been transferred to NAFDAC for further investigation.
