The suspects, numbering nine, were accused of stabbing Awodiran to death sometimes in May while he was returning from work at Lambe junction, Alausa village, in Ifo Local Government Area of the State.
They were said to have collected N200,000 in cash, recharge cards and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.
The incident, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, was reported at Ajuwon Divisional headquarters, with a directive from the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, to the Divisional Police Officer, SP Kazeem Afolabi, that the perpetrators be brought to book.
The statement read: “In compliance with the CP’s order, the DPO and his men swung into action and their efforts led to the arrest of the suspects namely: Lukman Taiwo (30); Taiwo Babalola (29); David Gbenga (25), Wasiu Olaegbe (24); Ojo Aliu (30); Taofik Sulaimon (24); Jamiu Taiwo (31) and Igwe Ofosile. Recovered from them were a toy gun and charms.
“On interrogation, they all made confessional statements to the fact that they decided to kill the victim after robbing him of his money because they were all known to him.”
The CP had ordered that the case be transferred to Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-ASRS) for discreet investigation and prosecution of the suspects.
