AS part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of the families of slain police officers, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Bauchi, Yakubu O Jibrin, has presented a cheque worth N40 million to 36 widows who lost their breadwinners while discharging their duties.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, who disclosed the amount while issuing the cheques to the deceased’s families at the Zone 12 headquarters, Bauchi, added that the donation was made under the Nigeria Police Insurance Scheme to 36 families of the heroes within Bauchi, Yobe and Maiduguri state police commands.
He explained that Nigeria Police Insurance Scheme was designed to compensate members of the Nigeria Police Force, who may suffer accident or injury or members of their families in the event of death of a police officer while discharging his or her duties.
He said the benefits of the scheme included death, permanent disability or medical expenses benefits, amongst others.
He expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the police for this welfare gesture.
While condoling with those who had lost loved ones, the police boss assured them of the support of the Nigeria Police Force. “This is a continuous process”, he said.
One the beneficiaries, Mrs Osawere John, on behalf of the 36 families, thanked the AIG Yakubu Jibrin and the police authorities for the gesture, saying it would go a long way to address their plights.
