Some police officers who were caught in Osun state by the Speaker of the Osun state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun after allegedly extorting a sum of N75,000 from travelers and motorists coming to celebrate the Osun Osogbo festival has been arrested and detained by the state police command.
The state police command spokesperson, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola who said the perpetrators of the unholy act would not go scot-free without facing the wrath of the law, said, they were arrested along Ile-ogbo/ axis of the state.
According to her, “the Police officers involved in this unprofessional and unethical behaviour have been identified, arrested, and detained.
“The Command frowned and condemned the act in totality as the erring police officers are currently in detention since Thursday, 10/08/2023 and undergoing investigation and eventual disciplinary procedure of orderly room trial for their unprofessional conduct while the senior officer among them has been queried accordingly.
“The Commissioner of Police apprised the residents of the state that, he will never condone any act of indiscipline and unprofessional conduct exhibited by any member of the Nigeria Police under his watch,” she said.
It will be recalled that the speaker of the state House of Assembly was seen in a video that went viral, condemning the act and ordering the policemen to return all extorted monies to their owners before reporting the case to the command for appropriate action.
