Police confirm arrest of whistleblower, PIDOM

Officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) have apprehended Bristol Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, on August 5, 2024, in a hotel room in Rivers State.

This arrest was confirmed by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who stated that PIDOM was detained on charges of “committing serious offences that undermine the integrity of government operations.”

The allegations against PIDOM include the unlawful possession and leakage of classified documents, along with other cyber-related offences.

ACP Adejobi assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to address these serious charges.

He also emphasised the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring national security.

This confirmation follows concerns raised by investigative journalist David Hundeyin, who revealed that the anonymous whistleblower known as 99% Oppressed, or #PIDOMNIGERIA on X.com, is currently in police custody.

Hundeyin had previously reported PIDOM’s disappearance in an article titled “SOS Alert: PIDOM NIGERIA Is Missing (And I Think We May Know Who Has Him),” suggesting potential involvement by Nigerian authorities.

The news of PIDOM’s arrest led to widespread concern and a trending campaign on X.com, with hashtags like #PIDOM, #FreePidom, and #WhereisPidom being used to demand information about his whereabouts and call for his release.

ACP Adejobi confirmed that PIDOM will be arraigned in court next week.
