Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, Anambra State, have arrested four male suspects and recovered two pump-action guns and nine live cartridges in Amansea, Awka.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of 1st September 2025, followed credible intelligence on a kidnapping case where a ransom of ₦5 million was paid before the victims were released.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the case was earlier transferred to the RRS unit from B Division, Awka, on 14th August 2025.
The arrested suspects were identified as:
- Chigozie Igboekwu, 31
- Odumegwu Chibuike, 23
- Jonah Awudu, 40
- Okechukwu Nwari, 33

The suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime, narrating how they conspired among themselves on 12th August 2025, around 7:00 p.m., to kidnap two victims in Amansea, Awka. They reportedly held the victims in a bush at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, for two days before collecting ransom and releasing them.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, commended the operatives for their resilience and reassured Ndi Anambra of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and safeguard residents.
The case will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, while operations are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate.
